Unique hues are not invariant with brief stimulus durations.

چکیده

Unique hue loci were obtained from three observers at several intensity levels with a I-set stimulus flash and a 17 msec stimulus flash. With the one-second stimulus the three spectral unique hues were approximately invariant but unique red was not. With the I7 msec stimulus none of the unique hues is strictly invariant. These results are discussed in terms of their implications for the nature of the cone signal inputs to the opponent color mechanisms.

Short-flash Bezold-Brucke hue shifts.

Hue matching was used to obtain measures of Bezold-Brucke hue shifts with very brief flashes (17 msec) at ten wavelengths and several illuminance levels. Results were generally similar to those obtained by Purdy (1931) with uncontrolled stimulus duration. but there were also important differences. These were: the locations of invariant hues; the direction of shift for blue-green hues: and a rev...

A neural signature of the unique hues

Since at least the 17th century there has been the idea that there are four simple and perceptually pure "unique" hues: red, yellow, green, and blue, and that all other hues are perceived as mixtures of these four hues. However, sustained scientific investigation has not yet provided solid evidence for a neural representation that separates the unique hues from other colors. We measured event-r...

Unique and binary hues as functions of luminance and illuminant color temperature, and relations with invariant hues

For aperture color 3 s stimuli, the four unique hues, and at times the four (equally-balanced) binary hues, were measured for: (1) adapting white color temperatures 2850, 3400, 5500, 6500 K; and (2) luminance (L) for 5 and 6 log L ranges (about 0.01-3200 cd/m2) in 3.2:1 L steps (viewed singly) for 1 subject per white, 3 log L in 10:1 steps for 6 subjects for white 6500 K, and 1 log L for 2-11 s...

Variant and invariant color perception in the near peripheral retina.

Perceived shifts in hue that occur with increasing retinal eccentricity were measured by using an asymmetric color matching paradigm for a range of chromatic stimuli. Across nine observers a consistent pattern of hue shift was found; certain hues underwent large perceived shifts in appearance with increasing eccentricity, while for others little or no perceived shift was measured. In separate c...

Misspecifications of Stimulus Presentation Durations in Experimental Psychology: A Systematic Review of the Psychophysics Literature

BACKGROUND In visual psychophysics, precise display timing, particularly for brief stimulus presentations, is often required. The aim of this study was to systematically review the commonly applied methods for the computation of stimulus durations in psychophysical experiments and to contrast them with the true luminance signals of stimuli on computer displays. METHODOLOGY/PRINCIPAL FINDINGS ...
